A Day Out

The last thing I wanted and the best thing for me happened today.

I spent the entire day out of the house – starting off at a cross country meet in Canyon, Tx then heading to the UIL Band competition at Dick Bivins Stadium in Amarillo, Tx. Followed by a quick lunch and heading to Maxwell’s Pumpkin farm with the wife and girls and a family of awesome folks we’re blessed to be friends with.

It was the last thing I wanted. It was cold and this week has been exhausting. It started with our youngest getting strep and the hand, foot, and mouth virus. The later jumped to her sister, and as soon as they both recovered, wifey picked up the bug or a bug. I was a little under the weather last week as well which has meant a full week out of the pool which I hate.

After getting on the mend, the last thing I wanted was to spend the day outside in the cold.

But it was what I needed. I needed to be exhausted from being outside the house instead of exhausted inside the house.

More than that, can you imagine anything better than watching a little girl smile at the slides and hay rides and games and pumpkins? Our oldest lit up to ride the little slides and big slides alike. We played for hours. Maxwell’s is a big and pretty wonderful place. Pumpkins only really figure into part of the whole experience.

There is something special about meandering through a field to pick a pumpkin when you have the time. It marks a difference in the season from just your normal grocery run. Today was a pretty good day with the girls.
