11 Inches of Snow.
In a lot of regards it’s not all that much. Huge chunks of white stuff falls across significant portions of the States. But this is one of the biggest snows of record out here, and that in itself is impressive, and this is probably one of the two or three biggest snows I’ve seen. And it was beautiful.
Snow is normally beautiful, but there’s something incredible about the quantity of white sticky snow up the sides of buildings and in huge drifts. Stomping foot prints into fresh snow brings little fits of childish giddiness, and watching my little girl dive into the snow and barely sink in while giggling.
I will say the Northwest Texas emergency response and local crews were all over it. Claude isn’t all that big, but the plows have pretty much cleared the streets in the town. Despite the quickness of their work, Amarillo ISD still closed up shop for today – and they never do that.
But that gave us a nice day at home with our family, and we played in the snow and worked on this and that around the house. Resting and reading and playing with the girls to stay warm brings us back to life.
Tomorrow it’s back to work, but the day ended with my wife catching the sun saying good night to the white caked world.
